Charlotte Francisca Bentinck
Charlotte Francisca Bentinck (Martinque, Lower Canada, Canada; May 28, 1768-Chertsey, Surrey, England; 1850) was a Canadian countess, daughter of Captain John Bentinck and granddaughter of the ruling Countess of Varel and Kniphausen, Charlotte Sophie of Aldenburg .
Family
Charlotte Francisca Bentinck was the daughter of Renira van Tuyll van Serooskerken (1744-1792), daughter of the Baron of Serooskerken and originally from Kasteel Zuylen, Zuilen, Utrecht, the Netherlands, and John Albert Bentinck (1737-1775), captain of the Royal Navy British, inventor and Member of Parliament. His parents were married on September 23, 1763 in 's-Gravenhage, Zuid-Holland, Holland and together they had 5 children, two boys and three girls.
Charlotte Francisca Bentinck was the third in order of birth and one of her brothers, William Bentinck (1764-1813), was an officer in the Royal Navy and during the years 1798-1802 Governor of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, who rose to the rank of Vice Admiral del Azul during his long career in the Navy.
Charlotte Francisca Bentinck married Sir Robert Shore Milnes on November 12, 1785 in Chertsey, Surrey, England, at the age of 17, and together they had 6 children: John Bentinch Milnes (September 13, 1786-1839), William Henry Milnes (March 8, 1788-1815), Arthur Milnes (1792-?), Henry Banks Oldenburg Milnes (October 17, 1790 - August 21, 1813 ), Charlotte Harriet Martinique Milnes (June 23, 1798-?) and Sophia Mary Anne Milnes (October 9, 1799-?).
It should be noted that Charlotte Frances Bentinck was the granddaughter of the ruling Countess of Varel and Kniphausen, Charlotte Sophie of Aldenburg (1715-1800), and in turn great-granddaughter of Princess Wilhelmine Marie of Hesse-Homburg (1678-1770), and of Anton II , Earl of Aldenburg (1681-1731), German Imperial Earl and sovereign of the government of Kniphausen, the Varel office and other possessions.
Death
Charlotte Frances Bentinck died in 1850 in Chertsey, Surrey, England, at the age of 81.
